What we're hearing
Need to know:

Libyan anti-government demonstrators promised more protests Wednesday, the ninth day of a standoff with Muammar Gaddafi - who has vowed to hold on to power or die a "martyr."

Cables obtained by WikiLeaks offer a vivid account of lavish spending, rampant nepotism and bitter rivalries in the Qaddafi family.

See photos from inside Libya and watch a video from the border.

Want to know:

The 7.0-earthquake that toppled Port-au-Prince transformed more than 1,500 other pieces of land, most of them private property, into camps for homeless Haitians. Now, landowners want the homeless of their land - and some are willing to resort to violence to make it happen.

Dull but important:

At least 10 soldiers loyal to Ivory Coast's disputed President Laurent Gbagbo have been killed by unidentified gunmen in Abidjan. The army vehicles were attacked in an area aligned to his rival, Alassane Ouattara, who is recognised by the U.N. as the winner of last year's polls.

Just because:

An art group that stages orgies, throws cats at cashiers and has Banksy as a fan has enraged the Russian authorities. Voina has infuriated the Russian authorities with a series of increasingly audacious stunts, and the jailing of its members has caused concern in Russia about a return to a Soviet-style censorship of the arts.

Manchester has become the latest city to restrict the activities of street charity fundraisers but some observers warn good causes will have to become even more persistent to survive tough times. Is the antipathy between shoppers and fundraisers about to intensify?

Wacky:

Names can matter, thinks one Australian town named Speed - which renamed itself "Speedkills" in an effort to promote road safety.
