Sony did not state that it would stop jailbreaking the console but we can

see the [2]Streisand Effect taking hold again as the key spreads all over

An anonymous reader tips news that following the [0]airport bombing in
Moscow earlier this week, the Russia media is [1]linking the attack to a
scene from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in which a number of civilians
were gunned down inside an airport. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has
become a shocking reality ... with so many people seemingly downloading,
playing or watching this game, you have to consider whether or not
anybody actually thought this game could so closely resemble reality,'
said a Russia Today news presenter in the report. It also included
comments from US terrorism expert Walid Phares, who said it was possible
that computer games might influence the strategies employed by
terrorists. Phares, who is director of Future Terrorism Project at the
Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said: 'The issue is we need to
know if terrorists or extremists are using these videos or DVDs or games
to basically apply the model.' 'I think those who have been radicalized
already that is supposed in this case jihadists, Al-Qaeda or other kind
they look at the games and say these games will serve them to train.'"
As we discussed when the game came out, Activision [2]edited out the
controversial scene from the Russian version. Violent video games have
been [3]taking a similar beating in the US after the shooting in Arizona
earlier this month.

hlovy writes "The profit motive can yes, shockingly drive biotech
research. But, according to a report by the AFP news agency, this same
drive to make money is [0]actually putting the brakes on embryonic stem
cell research. With the research already set back years due to government
research bans, US scientists [1]now face roadblocks because other
universities or companies have secured exclusive rights."

CWmike writes "Police agencies worldwide are turning up the heat on a
loosely organized group of WikiLeaks activists. After yesterday's news
that UK police [0]arrested five people, US authorities announced that
[1]more than 40 search warrants have been executed in the US in
connection with last month's Web-based attacks against companies that had
severed ties with WikiLeaks. Investigations are also ongoing in the
Netherlands, Germany and France, the FBI said Thursday. Acting on
information from German authorities, the [2]FBI raided Dallas ISP Tailor
Made Services last month, looking for evidence relating to one of the
chat servers used by Anonymous. Another server was traced to Fremont,
California's Hurricane Electric. On Thursday, [3]a Web page used by
Anonymous to coordinate this latest round of DDoS attacks was offline,
and the group's Twitter and Blogspot pages were silent." Reader Ajehals
contributes a link to the UK Pirate Party's explanation of [4]how the law
applies to DDoS attacks.

[0]released 6,000 genetically modified male mosquitoes into the the wild.
These bloodsuckers have been altered to have shorter lifespans. The basic
idea behind it is to help slow down the spread of Dengue fever by killing
off the mosquitoes faster."

An anonymous reader writes with this excerpt from msnbc.com: "The state
of Alaska has until May 31 to release about 25,000 pages of e-mails from
former Gov. Sarah Palin and senior members of her administration, the
state attorney general declared Wednesday. ... the delays in dealing with
public records from the Palin administration will have [0]stretched out
longer than the Palin administration itself. She was governor for 966
days. By May 31, the request from msnbc.com for the official records will
be 986 days old. State regulations usually require records to be made
available within 10 days, but state officials said they were overwhelmed
by the volume of the e-mails." [0]

destinyland writes "Thursday Amazon.com announced that [0]they're selling
more ebooks than paperback books and three times as many ebooks as
hardcovers. If you combine their statistics into a pie chart, it shows
that [1]45% of all the books Amazon sells are now ebooks. And Amazon's
statistic doesn't include all the free ebooks people are downloading to
their Kindles, so if just one user downloads a free ebook for every nine
paid ebook purchases then Amazon is already delivering more digital
ebooks than they are print editions." Another reader tips an interview
with Brian Altounian, CEO of ebook marketplace WOWIO, in which he
discusses [2]an encroaching feature that ebook aficionados love to hate:
ads.
