Congress on Research in Dance
Special Topics Conference

March 11-12, 2011

American Dance Studies Program
Florida State University

---------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS

The Florida State University American Dance Studies program seeks papers that
investigate dance in American culture. The purpose of this conference is to contextualize
dance's role in the formation of American society. We encourage paper submissions
that investigate the relationship between American history, culture and dance
and that emphasize fresh approaches to historical interpretation. Essays may
address particular events in American history, such as the American Revolution
or 9/11; submissions may also incorporate a thematic approach, such as examining
pluralistic identities or Do-it-Yourself culture. Other topics might include,
but are not limited to:

* Disillusionment with the American Ideal
* Pluralistic Identities and the American Mosaic
* Revolution and Democracy
* Utopian Bodies
* Staging American Identities
* Promises and Propaganda
* Anxieties of Influence
* Americana
* Cultural Imperialism
* Varieties of Religious Experience
* Conformity and Consensus
* New Frontiers in Technology
* Do-it-Yourself (DIY) culture
* Sampling
