course it is, says Manjoo. Amazon has physical operations in 17 states in

Voulnet writes with this excerpt from TorrentFreak: "This morning,
visitors to the Torrent-Finder.com site are greeted with an ominous
graphic which [0]indicates that ICE has seized the site's domain. 'My
domain has been seized without any previous complaint or notice from any
court!' the exasperated owner of Torrent-Finder told TorrentFreak this
morning. 'I firstly had DNS downtime. While I was contacting GoDaddy, I
noticed the DNS had changed. GoDaddy had no idea what was going on and
until now they do not understand the situation and they say it was
totally from ICANN,' he explained. Aside from the fact that domains are
being seized seemingly at will, there is a very serious problem with the
action against Torrent-Finder. Not only does the site not host or even
link to any torrents whatsoever, it actually only returns searches
through embedded iframes which display other sites that are not under the
control of the Torrent-Finder owner."

Randyll writes "During its Saturn flyby in March, the Cassini space probe
[0]detected an oxygen-rich atmosphere on Rhea, Saturn's second-largest
moon. While 100 times thinner than the atmospheres of Europa or Ganymede,
Rhea's atmosphere contains a surprising amount of carbon dioxide. There
is an explanation for the oxygen the decomposition of surface ice
while the origin of the carbon dioxide is a mystery. A few of the
possible explanations are that Rhea has carbon-rich organic molecules or
that the gas is seeping from Rhea's interior. However, researchers have
been unable to determine the exact source for the gas." While "richness"
is relative the [1]study's abstract refers to Rhea's atmosphere as
"tenuous," and oxygen concentrations are trillions of times lower there
than they are on Earth the finding still puts Rhea in rare company
among the planets and moons of the solar system.

+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An anonymous reader sends in a CNN article that looks at airport security
from more reasonable point of view, suggesting that [0]looking for every
last micro-gram of potentially explosive material is a waste of time,
since very small quantities of explosives are unlikely to significantly
damage a plane. The author also recommends incorporating parts of [1]the
Israeli method of securing airplanes look for the bomber, not the
tools. Quoting: "Clearly everything should be done to prevent explosives
getting on board an aircraft in quantities sufficient to cause structural
failure and bring the plane down. But is it worth chasing lesser
quantities that would result in zero or minimal damage? The enhanced
pat-down that some find so offensive is designed to search for these
small amounts. It often ends with a swab being taken to test for
explosive residues. Technology does have a role to play, but imaging is
not the solution. Operator fatigue sets in after short periods of time
staring at computer images. That's why there are reports that contraband
items have been smuggled through X-ray units used to scan carry-on bags.
The aim should be to detect high explosive in quantities that are
sufficient to cause significant damage. We don't need a machine that
takes pictures of the human body. It makes more sense to develop a
detector that clearly discriminates between high explosives and human
tissue or water."

[0]Hugh Pickens writes "A shipment of radioactive rods used in medical
equipment [1]has vanished while being sent by FedEx from North Dakota to
Tennessee. Based on tracking information, FedEx is focusing its search in
the Tennessee area, but as a normal precaution the company alerted all of
its stations 'in the event that it got waylaid and went to another
station by accident.' Dr. Marc Siegel says if someone opens the container
it could pose some serious health risks. 'I don't believe it has the
degree of radiation that, if it were opened, your skin would suddenly
slough off. But the concern would be, if this got opened inadvertently
and someone didn't know what it was and then was repeatedly exposed to it
over several days, it could cause a problem with radiation poisoning,'
says Siegel. 'The people that use this equipment in a hospital use
protective shielding with it.' The lesson is that active medical material
must always be transported in a way that ensures the general public
cannot get access to it. 'Medical devices should not be FedExed. They
should be sent under a special service,' adds Siegel."

Use of deep packet inspection this way would nonetheless give advertisers

binstream writes "To support Linux game development, Unigine Corp.
announced a competition: it will [0]give a free license for its Unigine
engine to a seasoned team willing to work on a native Linux game. The
company has been Linux-friendly from the very start; it released advanced
GPU benchmarks (Heaven, Tropics, Sanctuary) for Linux before and is
working on the OilRush strategy game that supports Linux as well."

Stoobalou writes "The UK government has [0]issued Defense Advisory
Notices to editors of UK news outlets in an attempt to hush up the latest
bombshell from whistle-blowing web site WikiLeaks. DA Notices, the last
of which was issued in April 2009 after sensitive defense documents were
photographed using a telephoto lens in the hand of Assistant Commissioner
Bob Quick as he arrived at No 10 Downing Street for a briefing, are
requests not to publish, and therefore not legally enforceable." This
news comes alongside a raft of articles detailing the US government's
preparations for the release. Officials are warning allies that the
documents [1]will be more damaging than previous releases, to the point
of potentially [2]damaging diplomatic relations with [3]countries like
Turkey. The Vancouver Sun wonders if this will lead to [4]a change in the
way diplomats communicate.

IronWilliamCash writes "I currently work for a small software development
company and for many years we have been using internally built tools for
all our software specifications, bugs, change requests and the
like.Traceability is a big issue as we are [0]CMMI level 2, and thus our
internal processes need to be clear and everything must be documented. We
are currently looking into getting a unified solution for this, after
quite a bit of googling, there are quite a few different options
(Contour, Kovair, MKS, Doors, CaliberFM, Accept360, etc.). I was
wondering what do other slashdotters use in their everyday life. Does it
fulfill your needs? And what is the most important part in a
specification management tool?"
